Why Shingles Should Never Be Ignored

It Starts as a Rash… But It Could Change Your Life

Many people think shingles is simply a skin condition.

It isn't.

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox.

After chickenpox, the virus remains dormant inside your nerves for decades.

When your immune system becomes weaker—because of age, illness or stress—the virus can reactivate.

The first symptoms are often burning pain, tingling or extreme sensitivity on one side of the body.

Only later does the rash appear.

Without early antiviral treatment, shingles can lead to severe complications.

The most common is post-herpetic neuralgia, where nerve pain continues for months or even years after the rash has disappeared.

If shingles affects the eye, it can threaten vision.

If it affects the ear, it may cause hearing loss or facial weakness.

The good news?

Starting antiviral medication within the first 72 hours can significantly reduce complications.

So if you develop a painful blistering rash on one side of your body, don't wait.

Seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Because when it comes to shingles, timing matters.
